New Furniture

On Saturday we finally looked at furniture and picked up a new sofa. It is similar to the picture but will not have the buttons and will have Bun feet (round). There will also be a matching chair. It is a brown shade with navy in the dark stripe. As it has to get made, there will be a 6-10 week before we will actually receive the set. Hopefully that is enough time to finish the family room where this will be.

A Dog in a Tub

When we got home from work today at 5:00, our little dog, Sparky was in the bathtub. Now he has never tried to jump in there before and we have a new deep tub too so it would be difficult for him to jump in. We are totally baffled as to how or why he was in the tub. The mat was not even disturbed on the side. Needless to say he was frantic to get out. We almost wondered if someone had come in and put him in there but the doors were locked and we did not find anything missing. Only God knows what went on in this house this afternoon!

Now on another note, Sparky has learned to climb a step stool in the kitchen - two steps too so perhaps he is practising other climbing apparatus when we are not home. Maybe he wants to run away and join the circus.

It will be interesting to see if he lands back in the tub again - at least he could come to no harm in there and well, if he had to go, he could just go and we could rinse it out later!!!! He certainly keeps us entertained.

Sympathy Cards

Here is a sampling of some of the cards I created last night. The only variation on them is the ribbon.

Lemon - Basil Chicken Fingers

4 boneless skinless chicken breasts - slice into 2" x 1/2" long strips

1 Tbsp. dried basil
pepper

2 Tbsp. soy sauce
2 Tbsp. lemon juice
2 Tbsp. vegetable oil

Combine last three ingredients. Put chicken in oil mixture and stir to coat. Let stand 5 minutes. Place on broiler rack. Sprinkle with basil and pepper. Broil 4" from heat for 4-5 minutes until tender and no longer pink. Turn them over once.

These are so easy yet very delicious - I have also done them on the barbecue but you need to leave the pieces bigger so they don't fall through the grill. In the house, I use a toaster oven which is just the right size.

Busy Day

Wow, some days are so busy I scare even myself! Yesterday I sorted the laundry and got that started, then went to the shop in the a.m. to work on some cupboard doors, came back home and sanded and varathaned about 18 - 8' pine boards and made lunch. After lunch went to the bank, post office (yes, we here at the resort do not get mail delivery) and a new shop in town called Beauty and the Beach Boutique. I found a lovely black, pink and sparkly scarf there for 9.99 so it is now mine. Then off to a job site to put in some drawer slides for Hubby, then off to coffee with Hubby (this was a nice hour off to just sit and visit with some friends), then back to the shop and finally home again only to do more laundry, varathane all those boards again and make supper. Now supper was delicious with a chicken recipe, which I will share and fried rice. After supper I baked apples with a new recipe from my step-daughter, Tam. Then after washing all the dishes upstairs to the craft room to make some cards - 6 of them! Finally into the shower and to bed to read a little and then have a long sleep! Hope today is a little slower!

Gifts from Phillipines

Our friend, Tina, who lives in the Phillipines but works here at our golf resort, recently travelled home for a month. She was very gracious and presented us with lovely gifts today. The wooden containers are for coffee, creamer and sugar. The table runner is made from pineapple silk. We were also given 3 jars of jam - two are mango and one is guava. Tina would love to work in Canada in the summer and go back home for the winter. Who can blame her - winter is hard even on us old-timers!!!

New Cupboards

So today Hubby worked on our own kitchen putting new handles and knobs in place. Also the drawer fronts had to be installed. What a difference it made! Love it a lot! Now we just have to take the gables down to router and lacquer them, work on the backsplash and put up some moldings. I am enjoying my kitchen a lot and find I am back into cooking and baking again. Still have to find a few more boxes of kitchen goodies in our storage container but have most of the stuff now.
